What the job covers
Flooded Basement Cleanup in Lewisville
Flooded basement cleanup in Lewisville pumps the water out of a basement or below-grade room, takes out the soaked materials and dries the walls and floor until they read dry.
That covers a full basement and any room that sits below the yard, a sunken den or a media room down a short flight of stairs. Water collects there first and leaves last. Standing water below grade can hold contaminants or live electrical current, so the room is made safe to enter before any pump goes in.
What a basement cleanup covers is listed below.
- Pump out of the standing water
- Debris removal
- Carpet and pad removal
- Disinfecting what the water touched
- Structural drying of walls and slab
Before anyone goes down the stairs
Basement Flood Safety: Power and Contaminants
Not until the power to that area is off: you should stay out of the standing water, because a flooded basement can hold contaminants or live electrical current.
Shut the power off at the breaker only if you can reach the panel without standing in water. If the panel is down there with the water, leave it alone, keep everyone upstairs and call us; nobody wades in until that circuit is dead. The OSHA flood guidance names electrical hazards and mold among the dangers of flood cleanup, and both are why we treat the first look as a safety check before it is a cleanup.
Until we get there
Keep to these three rules until we arrive.
- Power off first. Cut it at the breaker only from dry ground, never from the stairs into the water.
- Treat the water as dirty. Water below grade can carry contaminants, so keep children and pets out of it.
- Gear up or stay out. Anyone who has to step in needs rubber boots, rubber gloves and goggles.

How we dry it out
Pumping Out and Drying a Flooded Basement
Submersible pumps take out the standing water, extractors pull the water out of the flooring, and then air movers and dehumidifiers dry the walls and slab until the moisture readings say dry.
The work runs in four steps, in this order.
-
Pump out the standing water
Self-priming submersible pumps go in where the water stands on the slab and push it up and out through a discharge hose, so the room is emptied before anything else is touched.
-
Extract it from the flooring
"Truck-mounted extraction" with weighted stand-on tools presses the water out of carpet, and squeegee heads pull it off tile and vinyl plank. Every gallon that comes out here is one the dryers never have to fight.
-
Strip out and disinfect
Soaked pad, debris and whatever is past saving come out, and the surfaces the water touched are disinfected before the drying starts.
-
Dry until it reads dry
Dehumidifiers and air movers are set for "structural drying", and the first moisture readings become the baseline for tracking progress. It usually takes three to five days, longer for hardwood, plaster or a slab.

Carpet, drywall and boxes
Carpet, Drywall and Stored Belongings
Whether the carpet, the drywall and the belongings boxed in storage are worth saving comes down to how long they sat wet, what kind of water it was and what each item is made of.
- Carpet
- Usually saved after a clean-water loss, once it is extracted and dried.
- Carpet pad
- Almost never saved, even when the carpet over it is.
- Drywall and boxes
- Depends on the hours wet, the water and the material.
The kind of water changes the answer most. After "gray water" from a washer the job is still mostly drying, but a "Category 3" sewer backup is grossly contaminated and has to be removed and disinfected, not just dried in place, so far less of what it touched is worth keeping.
Drywall and cardboard pull water upward, what the trade calls "wicking", so the wet line on the wall usually sits higher than the water ever stood. The sooner everything comes up off the wet slab, the more of it has a chance.

What it costs
Flooded Basement Cleanup Pricing
Flooded basement cleanup is typically priced by how deep the water is and how much floor it covers, what has to come out and how long the drying runs, and a published Dallas-area range can give you a starting point.
The scope, and so the cost, is set by the affected area, the materials, the water conditions, and the equipment and repairs needed. Square footage and access count too: a basement reached by one narrow stair takes longer to pump, strip and carry out than a room at grade.
We quote the whole job before we start, with no surprise charges after. Call, tell us what you see, and we will come out and put a number on it.
$4 to $8per square foot is the typical range for water removal in the Dallas area, depending on the size of the area and the category of the water.
Below-grade rooms
Crawl Spaces and Below-Grade Rooms
Crawl spaces and sunken rooms are pumped and dried the same way as a basement, with extra attention to the moisture hiding in the framing and insulation.
Water under a floor or behind a wall does not show itself the way a puddle does. Hidden moisture left in joists, sill plates or insulation causes mold, rot and structural deterioration long after the floor above looks dry. The trade finds it by "moisture mapping", measuring and marking where the moisture has spread, and drying is not done until the framing reads back to normal, not just the surface you can see.

Flooded basement questions
How much does it cost to clean up a flooded basement?
Water removal from a flooded basement typically runs $4 to $8 per square foot in the Dallas area, depending on the size of the area and the category of the water. The final figure turns on what has to come out and how long the drying takes, and we quote the whole job before we start. What soaks up water in a basement?
On the cleanup side, submersible pumps take the standing water, extractors pull it out of carpet and hard floors, and dehumidifiers, also called "humidity extractors", pull what is left out of the air. On the damage side, carpet pad, drywall and cardboard soak it up fastest, which is why the wet area is always bigger than the puddle.
Will homeowners insurance cover a flooded basement?
Most homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage, and flood insurance is a separate policy, as FloodSmart: The National Flood Insurance Program explains. Check which policy you hold before work starts, and keep the photos and the first moisture readings for the adjuster. For a water damage claim step by step, see how a water damage insurance claim works.
